Going to Build a Castle…

I have arranged with a friend of mine to go and help build a castle in France. We saw a demonstration of medieval skills recently at Bodium and I was intrigued with the project. Apparently a wealthy Frenchman who likes to restore old chateaux decided he wanted to build one from scratch using the authentic skills and designs of the 13th Century. They started Guedelon Castle in 1997 and expect the project to take 25 years in total, so they are only half way through. They welcome volunteers who want to participate and learn techniques and experience the living archaeology of the site, so we put our names down and we are due to go at the end of October. I am really excited about the project.
